GameInfomer Mock Magazine

Over the course of a semester, I was tasked to analyze a magazine publication and use that information to develop an issue on my own.

Once I decided to work on an Issue of Gameinformer, I purchased two issues of the magazine and begun the analysis process. This involved determining consistent design elements including typography, colour, imagery, and a variety of other elements. Throughout this process, I gained insight into what elements I would include in my mock issue, and what elements I would iterate on and adapt to my own style.

Following the analysis process, a short copy developing process began. This process included determining what stories would be covered and finally using ChatGPT to draft fake copy to use in the final design. This process was simple, but required strategic usage of the generative AI tools as the the copy length, content and style would be crucial to the final design of the issue.

After finalizing the copy, the design process begun with determining the issues flatplan, and implementing the copy to get a rough sense of page lengths. Gameinformer gives its designers lots of freedom in how they layout their featured articles, allowing my own design to be flexible and creative while retaining a certain level of believability. Some challenges occured in this process as Gameinformer's own defined grid system seems to be optional depending on the page content. Despite these challenges, the finished product reflects the modern design of Gameinformer magazines and was an exciting and unique project that taught me lots about editorial design as it was my first design in the field.

Let's work together!
